$18.88 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/Sarno Landfill Transfer Station/Melbourne. Work schedule is variable which includes evenings, weekends and holidays.

• Disposes of solid waste and maintains the grounds at the landfill site.
• Performs heavy physical work with exposure to hazardous materials, dirt, dust, odors, fumes, moving machinery, noise and vermin.
• Cleans the grounds around the landfill site and designated rights-of-way; mows and uses appropriate equipment for grounds maintenance around the site.
• Directs trucks to appropriate dumping areas and opens large, heavy trailer doors.
• Directs the public to the appropriate unloading site and assists in unloading trash.
• Inspects the waste stream for flammable and explosive items.
• Removes undesirable items from pits, tipping floors and the landfill site.
• Washes tractors, trailers and other heavy equipment or vehicles.
• Responds to emergencies, such as fires and explosions, by following the County Emergency Management Plan and established safety procedures.

• Six (6) months of experience performing manual labor, lawn maintenance, grounds maintenance, or other similar outdoor labor.
• SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must be able to read contractor-generated hauling tickets identifying contents and cubic yards and write simple records and/or reports. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
