- Patrol all hospital areas internally and externally on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions (motor vehicle patrols only for officers meeting license standards)
- Provide key assistance to all areas, including sensitive areas, to authorized personnel
- Detect suspicious activities, handle situations appropriately, and report criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement as required
- Investigate accident scenes, preserve evidence, interview witnesses, and produce oral and written reports; respond to varying situations with tact and diplomacy
- Deal with stressful, hostile, or irrational individuals and recommend legal action if necessary
- Assist medical staff with enforcement of the Baker Act and Marchman Act, using approved restraints as authorized by physicians under Florida statutes
- Work with law enforcement/correction officers during patient or prisoner intake and status updates throughout their stay in the hospital
- Assist the Patient Care Coordinator with securing the status of non‑publicity/high‑risk patients
- Report all safety and security violations campus‑wide
- Respond to inbound and outbound helicopter flights, ensuring helipad safety and assisting flight crew with patient transport as needed
- Operate walk‑through and handheld metal detectors as required
- Maintain punctual attendance in line with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards
- Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
- Respond to threats or acts of violence, hostage situations, abductions, elopements, emergencies, fire alarms, severe weather, access control incidents, system failures, bomb or suspicious package threats, hazardous material spills, and similar incidents; provide assistance as required
- Document incidents through Event Reports and photograph slips, trip and fall events for liability mitigation
- Enforce state injunctions established by Florida
- Respond to disturbance calls such as domestic disputes, disorderly conduct, fights, and similar situations
- Escort terminated employees when requested by department managers
- May be required to testify or be subpoenaed during court proceedings
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word for report writing purposes
- Valid Florida driver’s license and insurable under Orlando Health insurance carrier standards (must sign a No‑Driving Document if unable after 90 days; obtain insurance approval thereafter)
- State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License obtained within 120 days of hire and renewed biannually
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification obtained within 120 days of hire and renewed annually
- Basic Security Officer Certification or higher through the International Association of Hospital Security & Safety obtained within 120 days of hire and maintained throughout employment

Experience with the Baker Act, hands‑on experience during a hurricane, comfort with transporting deceased patients, and strong customer service skills
