As a Machine Operator, you’ll work independently in the field placing buried service wire using a manually controlled gasoline or diesel‑powered tractor/trencher, plow, boring machine, or other manual tools. You’ll coordinate work activities with customers, local utilities, and government agencies, providing installation, repairs, maintenance and reconnection of fiber and copper services while following safety practices and delivering the highest levels of service.
Responsibilities- Locate buried facilities near the route of service wire using appropriate equipment.
- Operate a company vehicle with trailer and machinery.
- Manual excavation utilizing a shovel.
- Provide repairs to low voltage buried utilities or sprinkler systems.
- Provide temporary repairs to low voltage buried utilities, sprinkler systems, and sewage field lines damaged while performing other duties.
- Perform periodic maintenance and non‑complex repairs to equipment used in the performance of other responsibilities.
- Read and interpret simple instructions.
- Follow established safety practices and procedures, including the manufacturer’s specifications for operation or use of equipment.
- Desire to work Monday through Friday with a shift length of 8 hours.
- Ability to work mandatory overtime and holidays as service conditions require.
- Eager to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.
- Ability to utilize various types of machines and tools.
- Lift and move objects up to 120 pounds.
- Use computers, including hand‑held devices, to update work status and check new assignments.
- Light commercial driver’s license or equivalent required, depending on state law, and ability to drive manual shift in some assignments.
- Attain and maintain a DOT medical card.
- Complete on‑the‑job and/or classroom training as required.
- Demonstrate competency in the training requirements during the probationary period to satisfy qualification achievement.
- Previous operating experience with similar equipment is desirable.
- Will perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- May be required to work outside the region/state due to workload and emergency work.
Our Machine Operators earn between $442 and $1,094 weekly. The average starting salary is approximately $51,064.00 per year.
