Pipe Welder / Pipefitter

This role focuses on performing high-quality pipe welding on commercial construction and mechanical projects. You will assemble, fit, and weld pipes and related components to precise specifications, using multiple welding processes and techniques. The position requires strong blueprint reading skills, strict adherence to safety standards, and the ability to work effectively on a busy construction site alongside other trades.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform pipe welding tasks that meet project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
  • Mark, paint, and clearly identify all welds to ensure traceability and quality control.
  • Align, bolt, and clamp together components of fabricated metal products to secure them in position for welding.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment according to specifications by welding and threading joints.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics to determine layout, dimensions, and required materials.
  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment as required.
  • Use TIG, MIG, stick, and flux core welding processes to join various materials, including stainless steel, in both shop and field conditions.
  • Fit and position pipe and fittings accurately to ensure proper alignment and secure joints.
  • Operate an oxygen and acetylene burning rig to cut and bevel pipe safely and accurately.
  • Work collaboratively with other contractors and trades on site to support project schedules and ensure timely completion.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including the consistent use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Adapt to working in outdoor and indoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment responsibly.

Essential skills include:

  • 6G welding certification (6G certified is required).
  • 6010 welder qualification is required.
  • Proficiency in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding).
  • Proficiency in GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding).
  • At least 5 years of experience in commercial mechanical piping and welding.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and schematics.
  • Strong pipe welding and pipe fitting skills, including 6G pipe welding.
  • Experience with TIG welding.
  • Experience with MIG welding.
  • Experience with stick welding.
  • Experience with flux core welding.
  • Experience welding stainless steel.
  • Ability to operate an oxygen and acetylene burning rig for cutting and beveling pipe.
  • Ability to assemble and fit pipe systems using a variety of tools, couplings, and fasteners.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction and mechanical piping environments.
  • Commitment to working safely and following site-specific safety requirements.

  • Experience in commercial construction or mechanical projects.
  • Strong blueprint reading and layout skills for complex piping systems.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team on large, multi-contractor job sites.
  • Dependable, hardworking, and self-motivated approach to daily tasks.
  • Comfort working with various welding processes and adapting to different materials and conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours within the defined shift schedule when project needs require.
