- Wastewater: $24.09 to $26.50
Treatment Plant Mechanic I
- Wastewater: $21.23 to $23.35
Selections for current vacancies will be based upon the candidate’s experience and highest level of current/active FWPCOA Certification held.
Positions are available in the Central and South areas of the County. Work schedule involves shift work and includes evenings, weekends, holidays. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and call back hours as necessary and on-call duty on a rotational basis. Performs experienced crafts and trades work in the general maintenance and repair of the mechanical and power-driven equipment used in wastewater treatment and sludge plants.
REQUIREMENTSA high school diploma or its equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), PLUS:
- Treatment Plant Mechanic II
- Wastewater: Five (5) years of experience in the mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial and/or mechanical equipment; OR three (3) years as a Brevard County Treatment Plant Mechanic I PLUS successful completion of all of the classes for any two (2) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and received a passing score on each phase examination PLUS a current Utility Maintenance Level II certification issued by the Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) or another approved agency PLUS a current Wastewater Collection 3 certification from FWPCOA or another approved agency PLUS a current performance evaluation score of 3.50 or higher with no performance evaluation factors with a rating of a 1 or a 2.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. - Treatment Plant Mechanic I
- Wastewater: Two (2) years of experience in the mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial and/or mechanical equipment. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain said license during the term of employment.
- Must possess a current Utility Maintenance Level II certification from the Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) or another approved agency and maintain said certification during the term of employment.
- Must possess a current Wastewater Collection 3 certification from the Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) or another approved agency and maintain said certification during the term of employment.
- Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a current first aid certification PLUS a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from an approved agency and maintain both certifications during the term of employment.
- Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call-out duties on a rotational basis.
- Must satisfactorily complete all Brevard County mandatory training.
- In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
- FOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY: Must complete within nine (9) months of employment, all of the classes for the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees PLUS must complete within eighteen (18) months of employment, all of the classes for any two (2) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on each phase examination.
