Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector is seeking a Staff Engineer Software at our Melbourne, FL location to support a research area associated with the RAD/BAST organization. The program focuses on 5G/NextG communications, machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and future wireless technologies to serve tactical warfighter applications.
Responsibilities- Deploy, automate, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve systems and software infrastructure.
- Take ownership of complex problems and drive solutions within a multi‑discipline team.
- Develop, modify, and maintain custom or standard applications using software engineering best practices.
- Participate in the full lifecycle of software development: requirements, modelling, design, coding, unit and integration testing, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.
- Script in Bash, Power Shell or Python and program in C/C++, Java, or other OOP languages on Linux.
- Integrate, deploy, and enhance 5G systems based on the O‑RAN standard.
- Design and deploy microservices architectures on Azure, AWS, and hybrid environments.
- Lead, mentor, and train the software engineering staff.
- Gather and report software metrics and support software working groups with the customer.
- Ensure adherence to software best practices.
- Develop and execute roadmaps, plans, and schedules in collaboration with internal leadership.
- Provide technical solutions to complex problems that are imaginative, thorough, and practicable.
- Support dry runs, storyboards, messaging for proposals, experiments, and demonstrations.
- Provide leadership to the software engineering staff.
- Mentor and train software engineering staff.
- Integrate, deploy, and enhance 5G systems based on the O‑RAN standard.
- Design and deploy microservices architectures on Azure, AWS, and hybrid environments.
- Full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software.
- Work with team members to integrate functionality with other software components.
- Provide technical solutions to complex problems that are imaginative, thorough, practicable, and consistent with program objectives.
- Ensure software best practices.
- Develop software products from all phases of the software lifecycle.
- Contribute to the full lifecycle of system development, including requirements development, modelling and design, application development, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.
- Develop and execute roadmaps, plans, and schedules.
- Work closely with internal leadership and execute their vision.
- Be responsible for dry runs, storyboards, messaging for proposals, experiments, and demonstrations.
- Gather and report software metrics.
- Support software working groups with the customer.
- Meet milestones and deadlines with best‑in‑class solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 14+ years of software engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 12+ years, or PhD with 9+ years.
- Ability to work independently and solve complex problems.
- In‑depth knowledge of the full software development life cycle.
- Experience with Agile software development process.
- Experience with C/C++, Java, or other OOP languages.
- Experience implementing and developing in container environments.
- Knowledge of microservices architectures.
- Expertise in Linux and Windows development environments.
- Experience with configuration management using industry‑standard tools and processes.
- Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Active DoD Secret security clearance (in scope) with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years.
- Experience with 5G communications protocols and equipment.
- Experience building, deploying, and maintaining microservices architectures in Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience with machine learning.
- Experience applying commercial products to military applications.
- Experience with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques and tools.
Salary range: $142,500 – $213,700.
Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions when determining base salary offers. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay, and Vice President or Director positions may qualify for long‑term incentives.
