Salary: Heavy Equipment Operator III - Utilities: $24.09 to $26.50
Salary: Heavy Equipment Operator II - Utilities: $23.05 to $25.36
Salary: Heavy Equipment Operator I - Utilities: $21.23 to $23.35

Positions are available in the North, Central, and South areas of the County. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and includes standby, overtime, and holidays as needed. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment and may perform related manual labor. Employee may rotate among various pieces of equipment or may be permanently assigned to a specific piece of equipment.
RequirementsFOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY: Must complete within nine (9) months of employment all classes for the Brevard County Mandatory Training for the Development of New Employees, PLUS must complete within twenty-four (24) months of employment all three phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and receive a passing score on each phase examination.
Heavy Equipment Operator IIIThree (3) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment; OR two (2) years of experience as a Brevard County Heavy Equipment Operator II plus successful completion of all three phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and a passing score on each phase examination plus a current annual performance evaluation score of 3.5 or greater.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted one-for-one on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess, OR obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial driver’s license with a tanker endorsement and maintain both during the term of employment. Must be able to pass a verbal proficiency test and demonstrate the ability to safely operate the Excavator, Dump Truck with Trailer, and one or more of the following:
Fuel Truck, Compactor, Backhoe, Loader, Vacuum Truck, Roller, End Loader, and/or Mowing Tractor. Must possess a current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Basic Flagger OR higher certification and maintain active status during employment. Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime, standby, and call-out duties on a rotational basis.
Two (2) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment; OR One (1) year of experience as a Brevard County Heavy Equipment Operator I plus successful completion of all classes for any two (2) phases of the Brevard County Employee Development Program and a passing score on each phase examination plus a current annual performance evaluation score of 3.5 or greater.
