The incumbent performs supervisory and technical work in connection with the operation and maintenance of the airport terminal building and the surrounding grounds. The incumbent takes corrective action through reporting and, when possible or practical, repairs any deficiencies in terminal equipment and airfield equipment. Incumbent works independently and alongside custodial personnel in maintaining the cleanliness of the airport terminal, assigns duties, and addresses complaints regarding custodial services, airport operations, facilities, and equipment.
This position falls within the Airport Operations and Maintenance department and requires the incumbent to be able to cross‑utilize duties, completing airfield driver, airfield inspection, and wildlife training as required.
- Trains new custodial personnel and oversees/assigns work for custodial staff, as necessary.
- Supervises and gives technical direction, performing construction, maintenance, repair, and replacement of airport facilities and grounds.
- Maintains plumbing system in terminal building and airport properties.
- Performs preventative maintenance and monitors repair/replacement of airport baggage belt systems, passenger boarding bridges, HVAC systems, fire and door alarm systems, lighting controls, automatic doors, irrigation systems, elevators, escalators, and other terminal equipment.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on various pieces of airport equipment (e.g., floor scrubber).
- Performs manual labor such as AHU filter and belt changes, trash and debris pick‑up, sweeping and mopping surfaces, repairing/installing fencing, and washing windows to a height of 50 feet using an electric lift.
- Assists with terminal inventory control, monitoring quantities, re‑stocking shelves, and requisitioning supplies to maintain stocks.
- Assists staff during emergencies involving aircraft or vehicle accidents, incidents, inclement weather, and assists in fuel spill cleanups.
- Works during hazardous weather events (e.g., hurricanes), emergencies, special events, holidays, and overtime as necessary.
- Required to work overtime or alternate hours for efficient operation of the airport.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, on‑call schedule, and be available for response to after‑hour emergencies.
- Assists supervisor with proper operation and maintenance of HVAC systems, passenger loading bridges, baggage conveyor systems, fire and door alarm systems, lighting controls, automatic doors, public address systems, gates, irrigation systems, and 400 Hz power supply systems for aircraft.
- Operates power and hand tools, automatic floor scrubbing machine, large commercial vacuums, buffers, man lifts, commercial carpet cleaning machines, and extractors.
- Assists technicians in removal and replacement of a variety of components, including electrical components, mechanical systems components, and loading bridge tire assemblies. (

- Drives vehicles and equipment on airport runways, ramps, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and safety areas.
- Coordinates radio directions from the air traffic control tower via the airport ground control radio frequency.
- Conducts FAR Part 139 airfield inspections, including safety inspections of runways, taxiways, aircraft parking areas, and lighting systems; assesses airfield conditions for safe aircraft operations, records discrepancies, issues airport NOTAMs, and generates work orders as required.
- Conducts inspections of airport facilities, ensuring satisfactory levels of service, repair, and maintenance, generating work orders as required.
- Conducts wildlife management in accordance with the airport’s approved Wildlife Hazard Management Plan.
- Responds to airport emergencies and other incidents in accordance with the airport’s approved Airport Emergency Plan.
- Performs and documents findings of FAA‑required airfield safety inspections; notifies supervisor of safety concerns.
