Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.

• General patient care – meets comfort and hygiene needs.
• Technical care – assists with patient testing, sets up IV tubing, 12‑lead ECG, tracheostomy suctioning, dressing changes, CPR, wound and throat cultures.
• Equipment – assists with equipment supply and setup.
• Transport – assists with ambulating patients and transfer/transport procedures.
• Communication – documents and communicates effectively to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements.
• Quality improvement – utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.

• High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education.
• Less than one year of previous job‑related experience (required); 1–2 years preferred.
• Certified Nurse Assistant, BLS (Basic Life Support) through AHA (required).
• Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program.
• Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in‑house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position.

Salary Range: $16.70 – $25.53 per hour.

Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
