Overview
Within your assigned service area, you will provide Planned Maintenance (PM), safety testing, repairs, calibration, installation, routine and emergency service to general and specialized diagnostic, therapeutic, and support medical equipment such as anesthesia machines, sterilizers, ventilators, ultrasound, laser, laboratory analyzers, and others as directed by the Clinical Engineering (CE) Manager.
Essential Functions- Demonstrate Trinity Health’s mission, vision, and core values through leadership behaviors, practices, and decisions.
- Perform PM procedures on multiple types of general and specialized clinical equipment.
- Follow manufacturer recommendations, standards, code requirements, and industry-acceptable processes when conducting PM.
- Conduct services on specialized equipment in categories including anesthesia machines, sterilizers, ventilators, ultrasound, laser, and laboratory analyzers.
- Diagnose problems using thermodynamic, electronic/electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other scientific methods and document all activities to meet regulatory and standard requirements.
- Notify equipment users and Clinical Engineering Management of repair status and delays as needed.
- Interact with clinical staff to understand and resolve operational problems related to scheduling and completing PM while minimizing disruption to hospital departments.
- Determine the need for replacement parts, select the most cost‑effective source, and submit properly completed parts requests using established policies.
- Complete corrective and planned maintenance work order documentation per policy.
- Promote teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision‑making, and seeking feedback on one’s effectiveness as a team member.
- Continuously improve processes by eliminating waste.
- Order parts and supplies for emergency service or repair of radiological and general medical equipment as authorized, and recommend test equipment and spare parts to the CE Manager or Lead Technician.
- Provide on‑call service coverage after normal business hours on a rotating basis.
- Assist and train Bio‑Medical Equipment Technicians I and II as assigned by the Clinical Engineering Manager.
- Serve as Lead Bio‑Medical Equipment Technician when assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested by the CE Manager.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Integrity and Compliance Program, and the Code of Conduct.
- Associates of Applied Sciences degree in medical electronics, electronic technology, or a related field, including comparable military training or equivalent education and experience. CBET or CLET certification preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of experience performing corrective and planned maintenance on medical devices and/or clinical equipment.
- Specialized training by manufacturer or third‑party repair in areas such as anesthesia machines, sterilizers, ultrasound, ventilators, laser, laboratory analyzers, etc.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in a specialty area.
- Basic understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of basic hand tools and test equipment specific to the field; ability to train CE associates on tools and test equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, EOC, and other specific regulations and standards related to clinical equipment service and repair.
- Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, with an ability to inspire and motivate others to promote Trinity Health’s mission, vision, goals, and values.
- Ability to operate complex test equipment, analyze, and interpret data collected from equipment and clinical staff to determine operational condition.
- Basic knowledge of personal computer operation and data entry using a keyboard; ability to follow complex written instructions and document actions taken.
- Strong customer service and communication skills to interact with hospital personnel and vendors for positive outcomes.
