- Perform a variety of direct patient care procedures under the unit manager, professional staff and physicians.
- General patient care – meet comfort and hygiene needs.
- Technical care – assist with patient testing and treatment procedures, set up and prime IV tubing, 12‑lead ECG, simple tracheostomy suctioning and care, change dressings, perform CPR, obtain wound and throat cultures.
- Equipment – assist physician and staff in equipment supply and set‑up.
- Transport – assist ambulating patients with assistive devices and with transfer/transport procedures.
- Communication – perform required documentation and communicate effectively with patients/families and regulatory agencies. Maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and department information.
- Quality improvement – utilize time and resources to promote quality and cost outcomes.
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma plus training obtained through work experience or education.
Preferred: High School Diploma plus training gained through work experience or education. - Minimum Experience –
Required:
Less than one year of previous job‑related experience. - Minimum Experience – Preferred: 1–2 years of previous job‑related experience.
Licensure/Certification s –
Required:
Certified Nurse Assistant, BLS (Basic Life Support) through AHA.- Other: Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program. Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in‑house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position.
Salary Range: $16.70 – $25.53 per hour.
Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
