Qualifications:
- Coordinate the special education process for assigned schools in accordance with state and federal statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Work in collaboration with principals, assistant principals, and Secondary Special Education Administrator in regards to assignment and supervision of special education teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Coordinate with Director of Special Education and principals to develop and maintain a continuum of special education programming.
- Communicate with parents regarding questions and concerns about the special education process and individual students' programming.
- Provide curriculum leadership. Review, evaluate, and recommend scientifically, research-based intervention and remediation curriculum in the areas of reading, mathematics, executive functioning skills and life skills.
- Conduct meetings of various members of the professional staff which are deemed necessary for the purpose of carrying out the assigned responsibilities.
- Oversee the student assessment process including initial evaluations, three-year reevaluations, and independent evaluations. Meet with parents to explain the process. Ensure that the evaluation process is comprehensive, that the instruments are current and that all suspected/known areas of disability are assessed thoroughly and appropriately.
- Chair eligibility team meetings.
- Write IEPs and N1 (required summaries) for all eligibility meetings.
- Supervise and evaluate teacher performance as needed.
- Provide supervision and coaching to special education teachers/staff to ensure the provision of high quality instruction.
- Serve as a presenter for professional development topics related to special education.
- Assist with grant writing and management of grant funds.
- Assist with the completion of state and federal reporting (i.e., communicate with private schools, complete specified reports, administer needs assessments).
- Performs such related assignments as delegated by the Superintendent and/or designee.
