Special Education Coordinator - Elementary Salary: $ to $ according to the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement)

Qualifications:

* Appropriately licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a special education teacher and special education administrator.

* Minimum of 4 years teaching experience.

* Master's degree in special education or education administration.

* Experience as a special education team facilitator/team chairperson.

* Experience in curriculum development and curriculum modifications.

* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

* Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and state and federal regulations.

* Sheltered English Immersion endorsed.

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state licensure requirements.

* Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check.

Performance Responsibilities:

* Coordinate the special education process for assigned schools in accordance with state and federal statutory and regulatory requirements.

* Work in collaboration with principals, assistant principals, and Secondary Special Education Administrator in regards to assignment and supervision of special education teachers and paraprofessionals.

* Coordinate with Director of Special Education and principals to develop and maintain a continuum of special education programming.

* Communicate with parents regarding questions and concerns about the special education process and individual students' programming.

* Provide curriculum leadership. Review, evaluate, and recommend scientifically, research-based intervention and remediation curriculum in the areas of reading, mathematics, executive functioning skills and life skills.

* Conduct meetings of various members of the professional staff which are deemed necessary for the purpose of carrying out the assigned responsibilities.

* Oversee the student assessment process including initial evaluations, three-year reevaluations, and independent evaluations. Meet with parents to explain the process. Ensure that the evaluation process is comprehensive, that the instruments are current and that all suspected/known areas of disability are assessed thoroughly and appropriately.

* Chair eligibility team meetings.

* Write IEPs and N1 (required summaries) for all eligibility meetings.

* Supervise and evaluate teacher performance as needed.

* Provide supervision and coaching to special education teachers/staff to ensure the provision of high quality instruction.

* Serve as a presenter for professional development topics related to special education.

* Assist with grant writing and management of grant funds.

* Assist with the completion of state and federal reporting (i.e., communicate with private schools, complete specified reports, administer needs assessments).

* Performs such related assignments as delegated by the Superintendent and/or designee.
