Title: Reading Specialist Teacher
Starting Date: Aug 31, 2026
Salary: $58,956.22 to $ Per CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement)
Qualifications (Preferred)- Certification in multi-sensory systematic reading instruction (Wilson/Orton‑Gillingham) preferred
- Highly qualified with required competency in the content area
- Appropriate content/program area educator license or eligible for licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
- Bachelor's degree with appropriate license; or
- Master’s degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check
Reports to: Building Principal and/or Executive Director of Academics and Accountability
Work Year: Per Teachers Contract
Salary/Benefits: Consistent with the negotiated educator salary schedule
Performance Responsibilities- Design, implement, and utilize evidence‑based instruction, particularly the science of reading, from selected curriculum with well‑structured units and lessons
- Have strong subject‑matter knowledge
- Provide a safe and collaborative learning environment for all students
- Engage families and community members as necessary
- Collaborate with colleagues and engage in reflective practice
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel and students
- Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form
- Contribute to an overall school culture where ongoing personal and professional development is valued
- Collaborate with educators on support plans or students
- Ensure that strategies used support Melrose’s curriculum goals
- Conduct reading assessments to identify students’ reading skills, strengths, and weaknesses
- Provide personalized reading instruction to students targeting needs as a central figure in the Multi‑Tiered System of Support through in‑class groups and pull‑out groups
- Offer targeted interventions to help struggling readers improve their reading skills, collaborating with other staff for a cohesive approach
- Collect, analyze, and report on data on student progress
- Manage and organize reading materials, resources, and tools to support effective instruction, providing in‑class support to teachers
- Work collaboratively with the building and district leadership to implement consistent approaches to reading instruction
- Ability to work in a normal classroom, office, and school building environment
- Ability to move freely about the building to perform duties with staff
- Ability to utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position
