Job Description & How to Apply Below

A well-established marketing agency headquartered in Melville is adding an Accountant to its finance team. The employer's name is being withheld at this stage of the search and will be disclosed to candidates selected for interview. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this position carries genuine breadth: billing, accounts receivable and payable, reconciliations, revenue recognition, and the reporting that supports management decision-making.

It is a strong fit for a professional who takes satisfaction in accuracy, appreciates close-knit collaboration, and wants their work to be visible to the people running the business.

Key Responsibilities Billing & Accounts Receivable
  • Prepare, review, and issue client invoices across recurring retainers and project-based engagements
  • Post collections and apply cash receipts accurately daily
  • Maintain aging schedules, research short payments and unapplied credits, and resolve billing discrepancies with account teams
  • Monitor past-due balances and conduct professional collections follow-up
Revenue Recognition & Deferred Revenue
  • Maintain deferred revenue schedules for prepaid retainers, annual agreements, and client advances
  • Recognize revenue as services are delivered and campaigns progress, in line with company policy
  • Reconcile deferred and unbilled balances monthly, and track pass-through and third-party media costs appropriately
  • Support the Head of Finance in reviewing revenue by client and engagement
Accounts Payable & Disbursements
  • Enter and code vendor bills, route them for approval, and execute scheduled check runs
  • Print and process checks; administer ACH and wire payments
  • Maintain vendor records, W-9 documentation, and 1099 support
General Ledger & Close
  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations across all accounts
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, prepaid schedules, and supporting work papers
  • Contribute to an accurate and timely month-end and year-end close
Reporting & Analysis
  • Produce recurring reporting on receivables, collections, deferred revenue, and cash position
  • Identify variances and trends and bring them to the attention of the Head of Finance
  • Help refine and document accounting workflows as the agency continues to grow
Qualifications
  • Three or more years of hands-on accounting experience spanning billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reconciliations
  • Quick Books Online experience is required. Fluency is expected from day one
  • Bank reconciliations, check printing, and collection posting should be second nature
  • Working knowledge of deferred revenue and accrual-basis revenue recognition
  • Strong Excel capability, including pivot tables and lookup functions
  • Precision under deadline, and the diligence to investigate a variance rather than force a balance
  • Sound professional judgment and discretion with financial and client information
  • Availability to work on-site five days per week in Melville, NY

Preferred
: A degree in Accounting or Finance; experience within a marketing, advertising, or professional services environment with QBO.

Growth and Advancement
  • The agency has a deliberate practice of promoting from within. Members of the finance and operations teams have advanced into senior and supervisory roles, and leadership actively invests in developing people rather than recruiting over them.
  • For the right individual, this position is a foundation rather than a destination. As the agency grows, so does the finance function, and the person in this seat will be positioned to take on greater ownership of revenue reporting, process design, and eventually the mentorship of junior staff. Working directly alongside the Head of Finance offers meaningful exposure to the commercial side of the business and a clear line of sight to the next step.
Compensation

and Benefits
  • Base salary of $70,000–$85,000, commensurate with experience
  • Comprehensive benefits, including health coverage, paid time off, and retirement plan participation
  • A collaborative, stable environment with direct access to leadership
