Overview
GPI is seeking an Entry-Level Junior Engineer - Transportation/Traffic Designer to join our Babylon, NY office. As a successful candidate, you will have an interest in designing highway/transportation improvements, working on traffic and roadway design projects throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. This is a unique opportunity to learn all aspects of traffic and transportation. The successful candidate will assist with calculations, analyses, and design, as well as preparing studies, technical reports and figures, and design plans.

- Work as a member of a design team on highway/traffic projects under the direction of a professional engineer
- Conduct project related field visits, crash statistic evaluation, traffic capacity and operations analysis, traffic impact analysis, signal warrant analysis, safety evaluation, and other related traffic engineering work
- Perform signal design, signal timing, signal optimization, signing/pavement marking plans, roadway and sidewalk planning and design, and other related traffic/transportation engineering work
- Perform due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new project
- Research and interpret transportation data, community statistics, and demographics
- Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
- Roadway and intersection design; reconstruction and widening; and designing safety improvements
- Preparation of calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and the development of technical reports
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering
- 0-3 years of civil/transportation engineering/planning experience
- Willingness to provide assistance to mid and senior-level engineers and project managers is required
- Experience with AutoCAD is a plus
- Experience with Microstation and InRoads is a plus/preferred
- Experience with Synchro and HCS is a plus
- Experience with Traffic Simulation Models (Vissim) is a plus
- Familiarity/Experience with AASHTO is a plus/highly desirable
- Familiarity/Experience with the MUTCD is a plus/highly desirable
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software is required
- Relevant highway/traffic design experience with NYDOT
- Reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver's license in good standing
- Willingness to travel as needed for project assignments is required
- Ability to work in the field in all weather conditions
- Availability to work overtime as needed
- Engineer In Training (EIT) certification preferred (or be willing to obtain within 6 months of employment)
- Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions and work in a team environment
- Experience handling multiple tasks and deadlines
