JobPurpose
This position works with the Process Safety Director to support the development, implementation, and oversight of the company’s Process Safety Management System in the NY National Grid. The role also includes participation in monitoring program effectiveness, and governance model to ensure compliance with internal requirements. It assists the Process Safety Director to ensure that all aspects of the National Grid Process Safety Program are fully implemented in all critical areas of the company to mitigate the risk associated with all predetermined process safety assets throughout NY operations.
KeyAccountabilities
- Work with US businesses to implement the Company’s global Process Safety Management System and be knowledgeable of other industry standards around safe and reliable asset management including OSHA 29CR PSM’s fourteen (14) elements.
- Develop centralized programs under guidance of Process Safety Director to facilitate compliance with the process safety requirements and work with business areas on implementing these programs.
- Manage two direct reports within the NY SHE Process Safety team, supporting the NY Gas Business Unit by providing appropriate process safety engineering expertise and ensuring the timely delivery of key process safety deliverables.
- Assist Process Safety Director to manage a team of engineers from various disciplines including mechanical, chemical, civil and process controls to provide appropriate process safety engineering expertise to the business areas.
- Ability to evaluate risk of hazardous scenarios and develop mitigating factors using National Grids systematic process safety approach.
- Work with businesses on process safety incident review and provide guidance to them.
- Minimum of Bachelor degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering discipline.
- Knowledgeable in instrumentation and controls, engineering design, equipment operation or maintenance.
- Experience in prior process safety jobs or applications (approx 5-10 years), including risk identification, performance management and reporting and other process safety tools.
- Understanding and experience with LNG, CNG, gas and electric utility operations, power generation as well as industry standards and regulations a plus.
- Experience performing process safety or other types of asset related risk. Experience performing compliance assessments or audits on process safety applications a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of the technical and political issues related to Process Safety in all states of service territory and Federal requirements.
- Robust understanding of risks, tools and management systems across engineering, operational and asset life cycle perspectives.
- Proficient change management skills as role will require working with businesses to implement new processes and refine existing ones.
- Demonstrates the ability to network internally and externally to develop productive partnerships with the business and collaborate with them to help achieve Company objectives.
- Strong verbal and writing skills to ensure effective communications.
- Strong engineering, project management and analytical skills.
- Ability to tailor process safety solutions to Company resources and requirements.
