Role SummaryWe are a non‑profit healthcare organization seeking a hands‑on IT Manager / Senior IT Engineer to oversee and support our IT systems while actively building, maintaining, and improving internal applications and automation tools. This role combines technical execution, IT management, and process automation, with a strong focus on reliability, efficiency, security, and cost‑effective solutions in a mission‑driven environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, comfortable working independently, able to perform under pressure, and motivated to identify manual processes and automate them.
Strong communication skills are mandatory, as the role requires regular coordination with leadership, clinical and administrative staff, and external vendors. Because we operate in a regulated healthcare setting, the role carries a strong emphasis on data privacy, security, and compliance (including HIPAA).
- Design, develop, and maintain internal applications and tools using Python, Java, Node.js, and React.js
- Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and automated workflows that support clinical, billing, and administrative operations
- Proactively identify manual, repetitive, or inefficient processes and design automation solutions
- Develop and maintain web scraping and data extraction tools, including Selenium for dynamic content (e.g., payer portals, government/regulatory systems)
- Work extensively in Linux environments, using CLI tools and scripting to improve system efficiency
- Manage and deploy applications and services on AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, etc.) in a cost‑conscious and HIPAA‑compliant manner
- Support and maintain CI/CD pipelines for application deployment and updates

SQL databases, including schema design and performance tuning - Perform data mining, basic data analysis, and reporting, using tools such as Excel
- Integrate and maintain open‑source tools and frameworks in production systems
- Oversee the organization's IT infrastructure, systems, and internal tools
- Provide hands‑on IT management, including support for IT operations, vendors, and internal users (clinical and administrative staff)
- Establish and maintain IT best practices, documentation, automation standards, and security policies aligned with healthcare regulatory requirements
- Support safeguarding of protected health information (PHI) and adherence to HIPAA and other applicable regulations
- Assist with IT security audits, vendor risk reviews, and Business Associate Agreement (BAA) compliance
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across application, system, and infrastructure layers
- Work effectively under pressure, managing multiple priorities and resolving incidents as needed
- Communicate clearly with leadership and non‑technical stakeholders through status updates and reports
- Maintain appropriate standards for security, performance, and reliability
- Strong proficiency in Python and Java
- Working knowledge of Node.js and React.js
- Solid experience working in Linux environments
- Strong comfort with CLI tools, scripting, and automation
- Hands‑on experience with web scraping, including Selenium
- Practical experience with AWS cloud services
- Strong understanding of database design principles (SQL and No
SQL) - Basic experience with Git version control (branching, pull requests, code reviews)
- Experience with data mining and basic data analysis
- Strong Excel skills for reporting and analysis
- Demonstrated IT management skills, including ownership of systems, vendors, or small teams
- Strong independent problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory — this role requires clear, consistent communication with leadership, non‑technical clinical and administrative staff, and external vendors
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to take on evolving responsibilities
- Awareness of, or willingness to learn, data privacy and security requirements in a healthcare setting (HIPAA)
- Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools (Git Hub Actions, Git Lab CI, or similar)
- Experience building internal tools, dashboards, or automation systems
- Familiarity with data pipelines, ETL processes, or analytics workflows
- Experience with system monitoring, logging, and performance tuning
- Knowledge of security best practices in cloud and backend systems
- Working knowledge of HIPAA, PHI handling, or other regulatory/compliance frameworks
- Experience in healthcare, non‑profit, or regulated environments
- Familiarity with healthcare systems such as EHR/EMR, billing/clearinghouse, or Medicaid/payer platforms
- Hands‑on experience with machine learning (ML) is a plus
- AWS Cloud Practitioner certification is preferred
