We are seeking a highly experienced Seafood Field Merchandiser to support, elevate, and optimize the performance of up to 20 full‑service seafood departments, including those with in‑store kitchen operations. This role is ideal for a seafood professional with deep product expertise, strong leadership skills, and a passion for coaching and developing department teams. The Seafood Field Merchandiser will ensure excellence in merchandising, food safety, operational execution, quality standards, and financial performance across multiple locations.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Excellence
Oversee daily operational performance across multiple full‑service seafood departments.
Ensure consistent execution of merchandising programs, seasonal displays, promotions, and company standards.
Support department resets, remodels, new store openings, and special projects. - Training & Team Development
Coach, teach, and train seafood associates and department managers in:- Merchandising strategies and impactful display techniques
- Proper handling, storage, and rotation of raw and cooked seafood
- Prepared foods production and recipe compliance
- Seafood equipment operation and maintenance, including lobster tanks
- Food Safety & Compliance
Uphold sanitation, safe food handling, and HACCP standards.
Ensure compliance with seafood regulations, including:- Shellfish tagging
- Sizing laws
- Species labeling and traceability requirements
- Financial Performance
Review and analyze inventory accuracy, margin performance, shrink drivers, and P&L statements.
Provide guidance to improve profitability, labor efficiency, and operational consistency.
Work closely with store leadership to implement corrective action plans. - Quality & Merchandising Standards
Monitor freshness, product rotation, and in‑stock conditions.
Improve visual impact and customer appeal through effective display execution.
Provide feedback and follow‑up to drive continuous improvement. - Communication & Reporting
Maintain clear, professional communication with store leadership and corporate teams.
Document store visits, action steps, and follow‑up expectations.
Represent the seafood category with professionalism, expertise, and leadership.
- Minimum 5 years of retail seafood experience, preferably in a supervisory, specialist, or multi‑unit capacity.
- Extensive knowledge of seafood species, handling practices, and merchandising.
- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Ability to read and interpret financial documents, including P&L statements.
- Experience with prepared foods or culinary operations; culinary background is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel regularly between locations and work flexible hours as needed.
- Must be able to work in refrigerated environments.
- Industry Certifications such as Serv Safe Manager, HACCP certification, or equivalent.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence without direct authority.
- Experience delivering group training, workshops, or onboarding programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, retail reporting tools, and inventory management systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and recommend merchandising strategies.
- Understanding of seafood market trends, seasonality, and purchasing patterns.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
