Job DescriptionMelvindale-Northern Allen Park School District is seeking a highly qualified school psychologist. The school psychologist will work to help students address and resolve personal, emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustments to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered to them. The school psychologist will have assigned responsibilities for evaluation, consultation, intervention, and other services to Melvindale-Northern Allen Park students in pre-school through post-secondary school levels that are consistent with MARSE requirements, MDE guidelines and district policies.
Roleand Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psycho educational evaluations in compliance with MARSE and IDEA
- Administer and interpret tests which may include intelligence, achievement, personality, adaptive behavior, perceptual-motor tests, and behavior rating scales
- Determine eligibility and provide recommendations under MARSE categories, including but not limited to SLD, OHI, EI, CI, ASD, etc. and eligibility under Section 504
- Use multiple data sources including formal assessments, observations, interviews and progress monitoring
- Prepare clear, compliant evaluation reports in a timely manner
- Support MTSS, PBIS and data-based decision making
- Serve as an active member of the MET and IEP team
- Explain evaluation results and eligibility determinations to parents and staff
- Assist in the development of IEP goals, accommodations and behavior support plans
- Provide school psychological services to any student in need of such services
- Directly intervene during crisis situations (e.g. threat assessments, suicidal assessments, safety plans) to ensure safety or in the case of tragedy to lower distress
- Systematically gather information (e.g. Functional Behavior Assessment) needed to determine the need for and, if needed, the specific features of a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)
- Participation in SSTs to develop classroom based approaches to help with one or more students experiencing academic, emotional, behavioral, social, or physical difficulties
- Team with other staff members for extended interventions to help with initial implementation, monitoring, modifications, and ultimately, plans to address student needs
- Collaborate in program planning and evaluation services for decision-making purposes
- Participate in professional development required of student services staff
- Follow all District guidelines, protocols and procedures
- Maintain accurate records and maintain confidentiality
- Execute other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by administrator

Qualifications and Education Requirements- Full approval preferred, temporary approval accepted for a Michigan School Psychologist Certification
- Master's degree or higher in School Psychology
- A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students
- Skills to consult, counsel, and collaborate with pupils, parents, school personnel, and appropriate outside agencies regarding mental health, behavior, and educational concerns utilizing psychology principles
- Comprehensive understanding of personality development and the assessment of human behavior
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Mastery of broad understanding of learning and learning impairments
- Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and MARSE eligibility criteria
- Experience in PK-12 school settings preferred
40 week per year position (teacher work calendar)
Salary according to master contract
