Selected candidates are intended to become a Retail Personal Banker I after completing a 4‑8 week onboarding and education program with rotations in operations and Sales & Service. The program culminates in a certification to demonstrate the skills needed for the role.
The Personal Banker I is a Financial Center position focused on using the consultative sales process to proactively identify and meet financial needs of customers or prospects. The role maintains a focus on acquiring new households and deepening existing relationships through lobby leadership, aisle time, and tele‑consulting. Responsibilities include processing teller transactions and serving as a member of the platform staff.
The position is responsible for risk management, following policies, and ensuring actions drive a positive customer experience while operating within the bank’s risk appetite.
- Use the consultative sales process and Financial Needs Assessment to build thorough customer profiles and identify current and future financial needs.
- Maintain in‑depth knowledge of retail consumer and small‑business products/services and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Utilize CAMP and other approved marketing tools to proactively reach out and set appointments for financial reviews.
- Cross‑sell to the existing customer base and engage in outside sales activities such as Membership Advantage presentations, business sales calls, and community financial literacy events.
- Establish close working relationships with assigned Business Partners (Mortgage, Small Business, Commercial, and Investment) and refer customers for holistic solutions.
- Consistently meet or exceed customer experience and production goals, contributing to Financial Center P&L growth.
- Provide guidance to CSRs regarding sales and referral processes.
- Promote customer satisfaction with a friendly, helpful demeanor and professionalism.
- Own customer issues, answer questions, and maintain a position of trust and confidentiality.
- Follow the Bancorp Code of Business Conduct, ethics, and all related policies.
- Open and service the full range of retail products, participate in consumer loan and bankcard processes, and manage loans from application through closing.
- Participate in the opening/closing process of the Financial Center or Bank Mart as directed.
- Stay current on retail procedures to mitigate fraud and risk.
- College degree or equivalent work experience; preferred experience in the financial industry.
- Ability to develop comfort level with sales activities focused on acquiring new consumer household and small‑business customers and cross‑selling to existing customers.
- Proficiency with advanced math functions needed for credit and financial analysis.
- Professional appearance and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of retail policies and procedures with sound judgment.
- Registration under the S.A.F.E. Act via the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) required at employment.
Normal office environment. Regular exposure to computer screens. Requires travel within the affiliate for training and classroom sessions.
