Bookkeeper

Direct Hire | Full-Time | In Office Our client is adding a new Bookkeeper position to support continued growth and bring structure, consistency, and visibility to their financial operations. This role will play a key part in building processes, establishing financial reporting, and ensuring compliance across multiple states. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a developing accounting environment.

Key Responsibilities Establish and document bookkeeping processes and workflows for a growing organization Maintain accurate general ledger, including journal entries and account reconciliations Prepare and deliver monthly financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for leadership Manage full-cycle payroll processing, including payroll deductions, garnishments, and benefits coordination Ensure compliance with multi-state payroll and tax regulations, including withholding, filings, and remittances Coordinate and file sales tax, payroll tax, and other applicable state and local taxes Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts Partner with external accountants, payroll providers, and tax professionals as needed Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls as processes are built Qualifications Proven experience in a Bookkeeper or similar accounting role, preferably in a growing or evolving environment Demonstrated experience working with multi-state payroll and tax compliance Strong working knowledge of payroll processing, including deductions, benefits, and wage laws Experience creating or improving financial processes and reporting structures Proficiency with accounting and payroll systems (Quick Books or similar platforms preferred) Strong understanding of GAAP fundamentals and general accounting principles High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently Clear communicator comfortable working directly with leadership

Preferred Experience Experience supporting small to mid-sized businesses Prior involvement in process build-out or cleanup Exposure to audits, external accountants, or financial reviews Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
