Contract-to-Hire Staff to Senior Accountant

Location: Onsite (U.S.)

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Overview

We are seeking a Staff to Senior-level Accountant for a contract-to-hire opportunity supporting a large, well-established organization within the municipal utilities sector. This role will support core accounting functions in a structured, regulated environment, including general ledger activity, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically strong in accounting principles, and comfortable working in a high-volume operational environment with established controls and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general ledger accounting, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests and documentation
  • Analyze financial variances and provide explanations for reporting fluctuations
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities as needed
  • Maintain compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve accounting discrepancies
  • Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of financial records
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 2–7+ years of accounting experience (Staff through Senior level scope)
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Experience with month-end close and general ledger accounting required
  • Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis)
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Workday, or similar) preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work onsite in a structured, team-based environment
