Controller, Accounting, Financial Compliance

Description

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, cash management, and compliance activities for the organization. This hands-on leadership role will manage the day-to-day accounting function while partnering with executive leadership to provide financial insights that support business growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with strong technical accounting expertise, experience in multiple industries, and proficiency in modern ERP systems.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

+ Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and financial reporting.

+ Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

+ Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.

+ Analyze financial results and provide meaningful reporting and recommendations to executive leadership.

+ Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPIs, and management reports.

Internal Controls & Compliance

+ Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.

+ Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, banking requirements, and company policies.

+ Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.

+ Manage sales and use tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings.

+ Support risk management initiatives and strengthen financial governance.

Budgeting & Forecasting

+ Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes.

+ Monitor financial performance against budget and provide variance analysis.

+ Develop financial models to support strategic planning and decision-making.

+ Assist management with profitability analysis, pricing strategies, and cost management initiatives.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

+ Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital requirements.

+ Oversee banking relationships, credit facilities, and treasury functions.

+ Monitor cash positions and recommend strategies to optimize liquidity.

+ Support debt compliance and financial covenant reporting.

Systems & Process Improvement

+ Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and finance processes.

+ Utilize ERP systems and technology to improve reporting, controls, and operational efficiency.

+ Lead system implementations, upgrades, and process automation projects.

+ Ensure data integrity and accuracy across financial systems.

Leadership

+ Recruit, develop, mentor, and manage accounting staff.

+ Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

+ Collaborate with operational leaders to support business objectives and strategic initiatives.

+ Serve as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership.

Requirements

Required

+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

+ 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

+ 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.

+ Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, Power Query, complex formulas, and financial modeling.

Experience with ERP systems such as SAP S/4

HANA, Oracle Fusion, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Net Suite, or similar platforms.

+ Proven experience managing audits, internal controls, budgeting, and financial reporting.

+ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred

+ CPA, CMA, or MBA.

+ Experience in multiple industries including manufacturing, distribution, professional services, healthcare, logistics, or private equity-backed organizations.

Experience with acquisitions, integrations, and business transformation initiatives.

+ Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting platforms.
