A Buyer e is responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with clinical, scientific and research products and services. Other duties include:
Negotiates contractual arrangements between St. Jude and selected vendors committing hospital funds to ensure the acquisition of high quality goods and services at optimum cost. Ensures quality of goods, and competitive levels of delivery consistent with institution and departmental policies and performance standards.

Submit all capital equipment requirements for price validation and ensure additional reviews as required by institutional policies have been conducted. Maintain complete knowledge of the institution’s contract policy and access risk and potential liability for the institution’s needs. Ensure sole source documentation, competitive bids, and contract applicability as appropriate before placing an order. Analyze markets to determine vendor sources, new product developments, and product availability and assist in selecting vendors and merchandise as required.

Communicate order status and update to customers promptly. May guide early career team members on standard tasks within own area. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in business administration or economics preferred.

Bachelor's degree with no experience OR High school diploma/ GED with 4+ years of relevant experience. Lawson software experience preferred.

(NL) Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) credential or the Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (APP) credential awarded by the Institute for Supply Management is preferred

Exhibits a strong understanding of procurement and sourcing function, business processes and systems to lead day-to-day operations independently. Demonstrates skills in data analysis to optimize procurement processes for efficiency, advance strategic initiatives and manage supplier relationships towards the institution's needs.

Exhibits basic consultative skills in asking questions and understanding needs of stakeholder; adapts company policies to consider different stakeholder interests. Establishes rapport and trust with key stakeholders by listening, understanding, and calibrating expectations. Provides operational/ coordination support to stakeholders; assists in dealing with current and potential issues.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
