Civil Superintendent

We are hiring a Civil Superintendent to join our team in the Decatur, AL area. The Superintendent schedules, coordinates and supervises the activities of maintenance and construction workers, and provides overall on‑site administrative and technical management on maintenance or construction sites. The role reports to the Site Manager or Project Manager and establishes procedures for specific goals within policy limits.

Responsibilities

Supervise the total maintenance and/or construction effort to ensure projects are constructed and/or maintained in accordance with design, budget, and schedule, including interfacing with client representatives. Plan, coordinate, and supervise on‑site functions such as scheduling, engineering, material control, and other technical assistance (e.g., interpreting drawings). Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures and standards, ensuring all on‑site personnel comply with procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, and company standards.

Create or update policies and procedures with appropriate approvals, document violations, notify management, and recommend corrective actions. Assume responsibility for employee productivity, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance. Interpret company policies and enforce safety regulations; analyze and resolve work‑related problems; establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedules, using knowledge of equipment capacities and assigned personnel.

Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Qualification Standards
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 10+ years of dirt work experience; landfill cell construction and closure experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • TWIC preferred but not required
  • Experience operating heavy yellow iron equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, off‑road trucks)
  • Leadership capabilities and qualities
  • Experience managing people and crew
  • Strong safety performance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction
  • Basic knowledge of all crafts
  • Advanced knowledge of key crafts onsite (mechanical, soft skills, planning, and safety)
  • Highly developed leadership and mentor skills
  • Preferred Turner Leadership Training
  • Post‑offer drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and signed acceptance of the Turner Industries Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy
  • Compliance with company and client job site safety requirements
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience. Salary range: $45 – $55 per hour.

Physical Involvement

Employee may be required to: climb ladders, scaffolds, and structures above and below ground level; maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds; reach in all directions; handle and manipulate objects and materials; coordinate eye, hand, and finger movements to operate tools and equipment; lift 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carry objects, tools, and equipment; stand, sit, walk, push, pull, bend, kneel, crouch/squat, crawl;

and have adequate vision and hearing.
