Job Summary
The Supervising Clinical Hygienist will supervise dental program students during clinical procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.
Clinical Oversight:
- Provide direct clinical supervision to dental program students.
- Ensure students adhere to clinical protocols and maintain high standards of patient care.
- Monitor and evaluate students’ clinical performance, offering constructive feedback.
- Conduct regular assessments of clinical competencies and skills development.
- Monitor compliance with infection control and safety regulations and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Offer guidance on patient interaction and communication skills.
- Review and evaluate students’ clinical performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor students’ adherence to ethical and professional standards in patient care.
- Demonstrate the NTC Core Abilities and Standards of Teaching Excellence in the delivery of instruction
Curriculum Integration:
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate clinical experiences into the dental hygiene curriculum.
- Assist in the implementation of practical, hands-on learning opportunities for students.
- Incorporate industry advancements and evidence-based practices into clinical education.
- Supports and implements assessment tools for evaluating clinical proficiency.
Student Mentorship:
- Serve as a mentor to dental program students, providing guidance and support.
- Provide guidance on career development and professional growth.
- Assist students in navigating challenges related to clinical experiences.
- Assist students in setting and achieving clinical learning objectives.
- Serves as a resource person to dental hygiene students, complies with and reinforces clinic policies, and serves as a model of professionalism with which students may identify
- Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for students.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement quality assurance measures to assess and improve clinical education, and ensure program effectiveness.
- Conduct assessments of clinical work, program outcomes, and student performance.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and assist in accreditation processes.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies for enhancement.
- Implement evidence-based practices to enhance the quality of education.
- Stay informed about industry best practices to maintain program excellence.
Professional Development:
- Encourage faculty participation in relevant workshops, conferences, and training.
- Stay abreast of changes in dental hygiene practices and technology.
- Mentor faculty in adopting new technologies and teaching methodologies.
- Foster a culture of support, encouragement, and continuous learning among clinical hygiene staff.
Community Engagement:
- Establish and maintain relationships with local dental clinics and healthcare facilities.
- Encourage student involvement in community service initiatives.
- Collaborate with external partners to enhance clinical placement opportunities for students.
In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene school through the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
Experience: 2 Years
Additional Experience Information:
- Must be licensed by the Wisconsin State Board of Dental Examiners.
- Must hold certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration as granted by State of WI Department of Safety and Professional Services.
- Must have at least two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) of current clinical experience in Dental Hygienist
- Current in CPR
