Position: Playground Coordinator (Part-time)

Overview

Hourly Rate: $15.94

Works under the guidance of the Youth and Family Program Administrator or designee to implement playground activities for children while maintaining a safe learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Implement playground activities for children ages 6‑14, ensuring a safe learning environment.
  • Coordinate and monitor the facilitation and implementation of daily activities, leading arts, crafts, games, sports, drama, and other engaging programs.
  • Plan, organize, and schedule playground events and programs, enforcing rules, evaluating equipment, facility conditions, and rentals.
  • Assist management in overseeing day‑to‑day operations of the playground facility, order supplies and equipment, and maintain necessary inventory.
  • Coordinate scheduling of all playground activities with park maintenance to efficiently prepare venues for scheduled events.
  • Adhere to summer lunch program policies and established guidelines, determine equipment and material requirements, and ensure timely availability of resources.
  • Monitor daily activities to ensure children have a well‑rounded schedule and maintain a variety of reports for management.
  • Coordinate playground staff and volunteers, review and approve timesheets, and provide regular feedback on activities.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure proper training of safety and security procedures.
  • Perform additional functions (essential or otherwise) as assigned.
Typical Physical Demands

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with staff, children, parents/guardians, and the general public. Must respond to emergency situations calmly and efficiently. Requires the ability to perform tasks of high and heavy performance, including traversing uneven and rough ground surfaces, bending, leaping, stooping, or standing for long periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of moderate or heavy equipment consistently, or up to 100 lbs with assistance.

Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors in a playground environment and may be exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and open water conditions.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with three (3) years or more of experience working with children in a recreation, teaching, or day camp environment. Working experience in age‑appropriate athletic or social activities preferred.
