Lausanne Collegiate School seeks a full‑time sixth grade teacher of mathematics. There are approximately 60 students in sixth grade and five sections of the course.
Lausanne is a coeducational, college‑preparatory PK2 (age
2) through 12th grade International Baccalaureate World School located in Memphis, Tennessee. Its student body represents more than 70 different countries. Qualifications- 3+ years of teaching experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Middle Years Programme (MYP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) experience preferred
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Familiarity with digital math programs (IXL and Map) preferred
- Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
- Strong passion for adolescent students and understanding of developmental milestones
- Responsible for teaching all students in sixth grade, including Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) courses
- Serve as a grade level advisor, including attendance on an overnight trip
- Develop and implement plans for the curriculum programs assigned
- Use formative data to continuously refine instruction
- Work cooperatively and maintain professionalism with the grade level team, full middle school faculty and staff, and the parent community
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning in an IB setting
- Manage student behavior in the classroom
- Implement individualized learning plans
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and the community - Participate in meetings and committees as assigned
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behaviors
- Support the school’s mission and vision statements, and the Lausanne Way
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School and/or Head of Middle School
Math 6 SL
Students build on fractions and rational numbers, including integers, and apply concepts of order, absolute value, ratios, and rates. They are introduced to expressions and equations, along with basic geometry concepts like area and volume. Statistical thinking is developed through measures of central tendency and data analysis.
Math 6 HL
Math 6 HL offers a rigorous experience for students with strong mathematical interest. Students extend work with rational numbers, proportional relationships, and problem‑solving using expressions and equations. Geometry concepts, including volume, surface area, and circles, are applied to real‑world contexts.
