Middle School Math Teacher, Grade 6

Position Summary

Lausanne Collegiate School seeks a full‑time sixth grade mathematics teacher. The role supports approximately 60 students across five sections within a coeducational International Baccalaureate World School that serves students from PK2 through 12th grade in Memphis, Tennessee.

Our mission is “to prepare each of its students for college and life in a global environment.” The teacher will contribute to this mission by delivering a student‑centered, globally diverse, and engaging learning experience.

• 3+ years of teaching experience
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
• Master’s Degree preferred
• Middle Years Programme (MYP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) experience preferred
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Familiarity with digital math programs (IXL and Map) preferred
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Strong passion for adolescent students and understanding of developmental milestones

• Teach all sixth grade students, including Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) courses
• Serve as a grade level advisor, including attendance on overnight trips
• Develop and implement curriculum plans for assigned courses
• Use formative data to continually refine instruction
• Collaborate with grade‑level team, middle school faculty, staff, and parent community while maintaining professionalism
• Create a conducive learning environment within an IB setting
• Manage student behavior in the classroom
• Implement individualized learning plans
• Maintain open communication lines with students, parents, and community
• Participate in meetings and committees as assigned
• Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behaviors
• Support the school’s mission and vision statements and the Lausanne Way
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of School or Head of Middle School

Students build on fractions and rational numbers, integers, and concepts of order, absolute value, ratios, and rates. They are introduced to expressions and equations, basic geometry concepts such as area and volume, and statistical thinking through measures of central tendency and data analysis.

Math 6 HL offers a rigorous experience for students with strong mathematical interest, extending work with rational numbers, proportions, and problem‑solving using expressions and equations. Geometry concepts, including volume, surface area, and circles, are applied to real‑world contexts.
