Course Description

The fifth‑grade Language and Literature curriculum integrates reading, writing, speaking, listening, and the study of vocabulary and grammar to build a broad set of literacy skills. Students reinforce grammar through IXL, read genre novels (historical fiction, realistic fiction, non‑fiction, fantasy/mythology), and learn to write in these styles. Writing foundations begin with claim‑evidence‑reasoning structure. Assignments span several lessons, guiding students through prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing.

Peer review processes are emphasized. Students engage with texts, annotate, and perform projects to express creativity and reflect on choice. Active listening and public speaking skills are explicitly taught. By the end of fifth grade, students will have grown in analysis, organization, text production, and language use.

August 2026.
