Job Summary

This is a part‑time adjunct faculty position in the Department of Communications/Graphic/Fine Arts. The instructor is responsible for planning, preparing, delivering, and evaluating classroom instruction and related activities on any campus of Southwest Tennessee Community College. Teaching duties may occur during the day, evening, or weekend and are scheduled on a term‑by‑term basis.

Job Duties
  • Prepare and deliver instruction on topics in music.
  • Administer, evaluate, and grade student work, and keep students informed of progress through prompt grading.
  • Develop curricula and instructional materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Assist in student recruitment, retention, and resolve course‑related problems outside the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with FERPA regulations.
  • Attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development, orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean, or Department Chair.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, consulting with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
  • Participate in departmental and college committees and provide outreach services to the community.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Head or Dean.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a major in music or 18 graduate semester hours in music; otherwise a master’s degree in any discipline.
  • Minimum two years of teaching experience in higher education, or one year of teaching experience plus three years of employment in the field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching and learning strategies to facilitate student‑centered learning.
  • Skill in selecting and using instructional methods appropriate for varying situations.
  • Ability to integrate technology into course delivery.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly in writing.
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach using various instructional delivery methods at any of the four locations.
