Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Strong knowledge of executive function skill development and differentiated instruction preferred
  • Middle Years Programme (MYP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) experience preferred
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for early adolescent students
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust‑based relationships with students, parents, and faculty
  • Strong passion for early adolescent students and understanding of developmental milestones
  • Ability to adapt quickly and problem‑solve in a dynamic school setting
  • Positive mindset and engaged community member
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills
Individual Responsibilities
  • Responsible for teaching all French classes in grades 5-8; 4 sections
  • Serve as a grade advisor, including attendance on an overnight trip
  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum programs assigned
  • Work cooperatively and maintain professionalism with the grade teams, full middle school faculty and staff, and the parent community
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning in an IB setting
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom
  • Implement individualized learning plans
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and the community
  • Participate in meetings and committees as assigned
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior
  • Typical divisional duties (carpool, lunch, free time) are assigned as needed
  • Proficient in using technology in the classroom
  • Support the school’s mission and vision statements, and the Lausanne Way
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School or Head of Middle School
Course Description French, Grade 5

Middle Years Programme – Middle School

The course introduces the students to the basics of the French language and the cultures of French-speaking countries. All fifth grade students will rotate through this class. Lessons include commonly used vocabulary, grammatical structures, idiomatic expressions, and pronunciation. The trimester is organized into two main units:
Greetings and Hobbies. The units cover topics allowing students to learn, practice and develop their language skills, collaborate with peers, foster creative thinking, and enhance intercultural understanding.

French, Grade 6

Middle Years Programme – Middle School

The course allows the students to develop a basic level of French language acquisition and explore the cultures of French-speaking countries. Lessons will include grammatical structures, commonly used vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and pronunciation. Instruction focuses on developing the students’ speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills in French. The year is organized into main units: greetings, hobbies, school life, weather and time, family and friends, and questions.

The units cover topics allowing students to learn, practice and develop their language skills, collaborate with peers, foster creative thinking, and enhance intercultural understanding. Students enrolled in this class will complete checkpoints, formative and summative assessments to help them reach the learning objectives determined by the MYP. Various materials will serve as a foundation for the course.

French, Grade 7

Middle Years Programme – Middle School

The MYP French Grade 7 commits the students to a higher level of language acquisition and deeper cultural understanding of French-speaking countries. Lessons will include grammatical structures, commonly used vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and pronunciation. Instruction focuses on developing the students’ speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills in French. The year is organized into main units such as the recent past, clothing, shopping, directions, body parts, daily routine, and the near future.

The units cover topics allowing students to learn, practice and develop their language skills, collaborate with peers, foster creative thinking, and enhance intercultural understanding.
