Responsibilities
Compass Intervention Center is seeking a dynamic and talented SPED Teacher. The Teacher is responsible for conducting an educational assessment and developing and implementing an individualized tutorial plan based on the individual's learning needs and abilities.
- Teach smaller classes of between 8-15 students with additional staff support
- Gain experience with behavior management techniques
- Implement Differentiated Learning/Instruction
- Provide direct and indirect instructional support
- Instruct students in core academic subjects using a variety of techniques to reinforce learning and to meet students’ varying needs and interests, while establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicating those objectives to students.
- Teach socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students’ individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system.
- Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities and/or need academic support in a small group setting, based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
- Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.
- Confer with parents, clinical therapist, testing specialists, the Director of Education, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities
- Develop plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings.
- Assist in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom and tiered interventions.
- Bachelors Degree in Education. Masters Degree preferred
- Prefer previous experience working with children and adolescents with special educational needs.
- TN SPED Licensure required.
- TN Elementary, Secondary Education current Licensure.
- Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development; limit setting and crisis and behavior management.
