Job Responsibilities- Administers and develops subject‑specific assessments for the purpose of assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Assesses student progress toward standards and goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes.
- Counsels students for the purpose of enhancing performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrates and distinguishes teaching methods required for classroom and subject‑specific assignments to meet individual student needs.
- Instructs students to improve their academic success through a defined course of study.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in various educational settings (classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive environment.
- Participates in meetings and professional development activities to convey and gather information needed to perform duties.
- Prepares written materials (grades, lesson plans, correspondence, examinations, quizzes, attendance records, anecdotal records, etc.) to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, zero‑tolerance offenses, etc.) to maintain student safety and comply with state law and board policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct appropriate personnel.
- Directs teacher assistants, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
- Supports other classroom teachers by assisting them with curriculum implementation and individual student plans.
- Demonstrates and models regular integration of technology in all curriculum areas.
- Follows a professional technology development plan and actively seeks growth opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Bachelor’s degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee teaching certificate.
- Highly qualified in the subject area.
- Adherence to the Tennessee Code Annotated and the Tennessee Board of Education regulations.
- Physically and mentally able to perform all responsibilities and duties of the position.
Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data, exercising discretion in determining data classification and referencing such analysis to established standards.
Human InteractionRequires the ability to provide guidance, effective supervision, assistance, and interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards.
