This is a full-time, academic year, faculty term appointment within the Department of Communications, Graphic and Fine Arts. The faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation (develop curricula and instructional material; prepare course syllabi), presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The faculty member is also responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned.
At a minimum, the related activities include instruction; instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
- Prepares and delivers lectures.
- Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students’ class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keeps students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
- Maintains office hours for students seeking advice on class work, assignments, papers, and others.
- Advises and counsels students in academic and career fields.
- Participates in departmental and college committees; and provides outreach service to the community.
- Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
- Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- May perform other duties as assigned by Department Head/Dean.
- Baccalaureate degree in Computer Graphics, Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Studio Art, Interactive Design, Web Design, Game Design, Interactive Multimedia, Gaming, or other related Graphic Arts field; or Associates degree and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline.
- Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in higher education preferred; or one (1) year of higher education teaching experience combined with three (3) years of relevant professional industry experience in Graphic Arts, Interactive Multimedia, Gaming, or related fields.
- A background check will be required for the successful candidate.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
- Knowledge and understanding of a college academic environment.
- Excellent teaching and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
- Ability to interact with an ever-growing student and college population.
