Compass Community Schools is seeking an experienced school counselor at our Frayser campus (K-8) for the 2026-27 school year.

School Counselor Pay & Perks
  • Intentionally small school settings – K-8 sites have only about 225 students in total, and one classroom per grade level;
    Midtown high school has less than 400 students in total.
  • Collaborative professional development (PLCs) supported by a network level Director of Student Services, as well as network-level content leads
  • Robust medical, dental, and vision plan with significant employer contributions to premiums
  • 100% employer‑funded short‑term disability, life, and accidental death insurance
  • Contributions in the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (AAA‑rated pension plan)
  • Salary starts at $57,000, with add‑ons for holding a professional‑level license and/or for attending a local EPP

School Counselor Qualifications
  • REQUIRED:

    Bachelor’s degree
  • REQUIRED:

    valid Tennessee teaching license (with endorsement #487)

School Counselor Primary Responsibilities
  • Support and contribute to a school‑wide focus on three pillars: academic excellence, values‑based character education, and service learning in the community.
  • Establish a supportive, joyful, and hopeful culture that has high expectations for students’ individual and collective success.
  • Plan and implement the school’s guidance program focused on improving students’ academic, social, and emotional skills.
  • Counsel students individually and in groups, based on students’ differentiated needs.
  • Provide mediation for students, as needed, to help students successfully navigate challenging circumstances.
  • Administer assessments to determine students’ academic, social, and emotional strengths and areas of need.
  • Analyze various data to help inform students’ counseling needs.
  • Refer students and families to various school, district, and community service providers as needed.
  • Carefully monitor students’ educational plans and progress in collaboration with staff and service providers.
  • Communicate regularly with families as partners in the education of their children.
  • Carefully manage students’ confidential files.
  • Welcome opportunities to develop professionally.
