Position Summary

Southern Avenue Charter School is seeking a dedicated, student-centered, and highly effective 4th Grade Math Teacher to inspire students to develop strong mathematical skills and confidence in problem-solving. The ideal candidate will deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the Tennessee Academic Standards while fostering a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic excellence and character development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging daily mathematics instruction aligned with Tennessee Academic Standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 Plans, English Learners, and gifted students.
  • Utilize data from assessments to guide instruction, monitor student progress, and implement interventions.
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student mastery.
  • Foster mathematical reasoning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through hands-on and collaborative learning experiences.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment that supports student achievement and social-emotional growth.
  • Integrate educational technology into instruction to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, academic concerns, and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, interventionists, and administrators to improve instructional practices and student achievement.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, PLCs, and school-wide events.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, lesson plans, and other required records in accordance with school policies.
  • Uphold all school policies, procedures, and expectations while modeling professionalism and ethical conduct.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a closely related field.
  • Valid Tennessee Teaching License with appropriate Elementary Education endorsement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of elementary mathematics instruction and best teaching practices.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Commitment to high academic expectations and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching upper elementary mathematics.
  • Experience in a charter school environment.
  • Knowledge of MTSS/RTI instructional practices.
  • Experience using educational technology platforms and student data management systems.

  • Strong understanding of elementary mathematics concepts and instructional strategies.
  • Ability to create engaging, standards-based lesson plans.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

  • Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and during school activities.
Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in a classroom setting with occasional outdoor supervision responsibilities. The position requires regular interaction with students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders.
