Position Summary

Southern Avenue Charter Elementary School is seeking a compassionate, licensed School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral development of our K-5 scholars. The School Counselor will provide individual and group counseling, collaborate with teachers and families, and develop programs that foster a positive, inclusive school climate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive counseling programs aligned with state standards and best practices.
  • Support teachers and staff in addressing student behavioral and emotional concerns.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to support student success and well-being.
  • Conduct crisis intervention and provide appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including progress reports and intervention plans.
  • Lead social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives and school-wide programs.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to the school’s continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or related field.
  • Current Tennessee School Counselor License or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning, counseling techniques, and child development.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.
Working Conditions

Full-time position based on a standard school calendar. Work is primarily in a classroom and office environment, with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, and move about the school environment as needed.
