Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position. This is a non-tenure track position for a fixed one-year period, with a target start date in August 2026 running through June 2027.

Duties include carrying out a collaborative or independent research program in one of the Department's research areas (evidenced by publishing articles, attending conferences, and giving research talks, teaching a 2/1 course load for the academic year (9-11 credit hours per year), and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Health insurance benefits are included.

The position is contingent upon available funding and is for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal. All strong candidates in one of the Department's research areas are encouraged to apply, particularly those with potential for collaboration with one or more of our faculty members.

Responsibilities

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Mathematics completed before the position start date.

• Adequate English skills sufficient to allow teaching mathematics at all levels of instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

• The potential research and ability to function in one of the mathematics research areas of the Department will receive primary considerations.

• Ability to bridge multiple research areas.

• Evidence of the ability to teach effectively in a classroom setting.

Research Areas:

• Applied Mathematics (including Partial Differential Equations and Control Theory)

• Combinatorics (including Graph Theory and Algebraic and Additive Combinatorics)

• Dynamical Systems

• Functional Analysis

• Topology (including Low Dimensional Topology and Knot Theory)
