Job Title: Dean of Students

Reports To: Vice President of Student Affairs

Classification: Full-time, Salary Exempt,12-month, Benefits Eligible

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Dean of Students provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for Student Engagement, Health and Wellness, Campus Safety, Student Conduct, Title IX, and Housing/Residence Life at LeMoyne-Owen College. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean plays a vital role in fostering a student-centered environment that promotes student engagement, wellness, personal development and community living. This role is critical in supporting student retention, success and vibrant campus culture.

DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation for staff in Student Engagement, Health & Wellness, and Housing/Residence Life
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs that support a safe, inclusive, and supportive student environment
  • Oversee the development and execution of student programming and campus-wide events to foster engagement and belonging
  • Lead the management of residential housing operations, including occupancy, conflict resolution, and community development
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to support student success initiatives and crisis response
  • Serve as a key member of the Student Affairs leadership team and act as a liaison with campus partners
  • Develop and manage budgets for each reporting area and assess program effectiveness through data collection and evaluation
  • Stay informed of best practices in student affairs and recommend enhancements to support the college’s mission and strategic goals
  • Supports Campus Safety to ensure a safe and conducive environment for students
  • Responsible for coordinating and/or supporting all student conduct and Title IX processes, including receiving and appropriately referring reports; assisting with initial assessments and supportive measures; coordinating student accommodations and resources; maintaining appropriate documentation and confidentiality; participating in investigations or resolution processes when formally designated; facilitating educational programs and prevention initiatives; and ensuring that student conduct procedures are administered consistently, fairly, and in accordance with institutional policy and applicable law.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Title IX training, prevention, awareness, and education programs for students, faculty, and staff and will remain current on changes to federal regulations, guidance, institutional policies, and best practices affecting Title IX and student conduct.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in student services or student affairs, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends as needed for student programs, events, and emergency response
  • Accessible to respond promptly to student needs and campus situations
  • Experience working at a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated experience in the following: residence life and student programming
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and crisis management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population and promote an inclusive campus climate
  • Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, and other compliance standards in student services
  • Proficiency in data-informed decision-making and assessment tools
