About XAI
xAI's mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge.
Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity.
We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands‑on and to contribute directly to the company's mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important.
All employees are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.
You will oversee teams and contractors building advanced water treatment infrastructure — including concrete structures, underground piping/conduits, membrane system foundations, process basins, and related utilities — in a fast‑moving, mission‑critical environment. If you thrive on hands‑on leadership, complex industrial construction, and contributing to sustainable AI infrastructure, join us to help build one of the most impactful water recycling projects in the world.
Responsibilities- Oversee and coordinate concrete pouring, forming, finishing, and underground utility installations (piping, conduits, manifolds, and process infrastructure) to meet the exacting specifications of a large‑scale wastewater recycling and membrane bioreactor facility.
- Manage and schedule contractors, subcontractors, and on‑site crews to deliver project milestones for the Colossus Water Recycling Plant on time and to xAI's quality standards.
- Ensure all contractors adhere to scope, delivering high‑integrity concrete structures, underground systems, and process foundations critical to membrane treatment, biological treatment, and wat er distribution.
- Monitor daily progress of wastewater facility construction, maintaining detailed logs, plot plans, and as‑built documentation for treatment basins, piping networks, and support infrastructure.
- Develop and enforce aggressive construction schedules while keeping the $80M project on time and within budget.
- Champion and enforce xAI's safety program, building a zero‑incident culture across employees, contractors, and subcontractors working around heavy process equipment, excavations, and treatment systems.
- Lead, train, and supervise foremen and crews, fostering teamwork and accountability in a high‑stakes industrial water project.
- Proactively resolve on‑site challenges — material delays, technical conflicts in underground/process systems, sequencing issues — with a focus on wastewater treatment infrastructure reliability.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with local regulations, environmental permits, safety protocols, and xAI's stringent quality standards for water infrastructure.
- Prepare and present clear progress reports, construction metrics, and risk updates to senior leadership.
- 5+ years managing construction teams with strong emphasis on concrete work and underground utilities for large‑scale industrial projects.
- 5+ years direct hands‑on experience in concrete pouring, forming, finishing, and underground infrastructure (piping, conduits, foundations) — ideally on water/wastewater, industrial process, or heavy civil projects.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Postsecondary diploma or degree in construction management, civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field.
- Proven track record supervising concrete and underground construction for water treatment plants, wastewater facilities, membrane bioreactors, or similar process‑industrial projects.
- Familiarity with Memphis‑area building codes, environmental regulations, and industrial permitting (TDEC, wastewater discharge/reuse rules).
- Experience with construction management software (Procore, AutoCAD, MS Project, etc.) in complex infrastructure builds.
- Deep knowledge of construction critical paths, sequencing, and workflows for water treatment/process facilities through commissioning.
