The Opportunity
CACI is seeking a Hydrodynamic focused, hands‑on Mechanical Engineer to provide technical support at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) Memphis Detachment. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, be excited to learn the intricacies of a unique complex system, proactively apply knowledge to develop solutions, and interact hands‑on with the system.
Responsibilities- Design and implement solutions associated with large‑scale industrial‑level hydromechanical systems involved in testing naval ship components.
- Work effectively alongside government and contractor staff with a wide array of backgrounds.
- Troubleshoot complex issues with electromechanical equipment and devices, identifying root causes and proposing effective solutions to enhance system efficiency.
- Recommend cost‑effective changes in equipment design to improve reliability, safety and timeliness.
- Conduct periodic quality checks on equipment and systems to plan and schedule repairs.
- Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify any problems.
- Repair faulty equipment and damaged structures.
- Inspect and maintain plumbing systems to guarantee maximum operation.
- Consult on limitations and specifications within facility for test designs.
- Design testing appurtenances and rigs for mounting scale models in the test section.
- Interpret engineering designs, plans, and diagrams.
- Provide technical solutions to mechanical problems.
- Operate large, complex machinery and test facilities such as the Large Cavitation Channel, while adhering to procedures and safety practices.
- Be prepared to work the occasional second or third shift in order to support testing activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering fields.
- Hydrodynamic focused.
- 3+ years of related experience with hands‑on mechanical engineering in industrial, heavy manufacturing, or waterworks settings.
- Ability to understand, operate, and maintain large‑scale test equipment.
- Strong background in fluid dynamics and mechanical design.
- Proficiency in CAD software and FEA.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards and practices.
- US Citizenship.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance.
- Strong preference for candidates who have previous experience as a machinist, welder, handyman, mechanic, or related hands‑on industrial experience.
- Experience with waterworks equipment (pumps, reservoirs, pump motors).
- Experience in industrial, heavy manufacturing, or hydromechanical environments.
- Previous DoD work experience.
- Strong preference for candidates with Navy and/or NSWC experience.

Pay RangeThe proposed salary range for this position is $60,100 – $123,200. Factors such as geographic location, federal contract categories, experience, skills, education, and certifications may influence final compensation. We also offer competitive benefits, including healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support, continuing education, and time‑off benefits.
