Project Manager/Senior Roadway Design Engineer – Memphis, TNThe Project Manager/Senior Roadway Design Engineer holds overall responsibility for assigned projects of low to medium scope and complexity. Duties include planning and executing a specific project plan, delivering quality products and services to the client in a timely manner, managing project financials, and serving as the primary contact between the SSR project team and the client. The Project Manager ensures that projects are executed according to the plan and is responsible for the overall success of assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities- Confirm project scope and requirements with the client and stakeholders, collaborating with the Client Relationship Manager or Operations Director as needed.
- Ensure contracts are fully executed by the appropriate Principal.
- Help develop a financial plan by preparing the proposal letter, working with CRM, Department Head, or Operations Director as applicable.
- Assist in developing the project staffing plan and preliminary man‑hour budget with the Senior Project Manager, CRM, Department Head, or Operations Director.
- Lead project kick‑off meetings to convey scope, client expectations, man‑hour budgets, and build consensus with the design team.
- Display an aptitude for collaborative learning, encourage constructive criticism, and build consensus internally.
- Work with the design team to confirm a final man‑hour budget based on discipline work plans.
- Work with the client to understand schedule expectations and propose interim milestones, adjusting as necessary throughout the project.
- Schedule work, communicate schedule and action‑item information, monitor manpower requirements, and update EResource with current projections while maintaining a profit variance of ±5%.
- Ensure project documentation is completed and appropriately stored.
- Attend meetings with owners, clients, and architects; facilitate communication between clients and the project team; document important issues.
- Monitor project budget and coordinate work sequencing to align with the man‑hour budget; recognize revenue impact of hours charged.
- Identify and administer fees for additional services as needed.
- Stay aware of risks to SSR’s quality, schedule, or financial goals; investigate causes of problems and communicate with the design team.
- Prepare and implement a proactive Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan for projects.
- Build and grow business relationships vital to project success and engage in business development activities with the current client base.
- Ensure invoices are accurate and delivered timely; monitor and collect accounts receivable; update projected monthly revenue earnings for each project.
- Respond to contractors’ and clients’ requests for information promptly and comprehensively.
- Manage the Construction Administration process to ensure building systems are installed in line with design and quality standards.
- Supervise the job close‑out process to confirm completion of documentation, filings, and project debriefs.
- Engage with the Senior PM, CRM, or Location Leader to increase knowledge of project scope, budgeting, and revenue projections.
- Actively attend internal and external training and educational opportunities to maintain technical competency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET‑accredited institution with four years of relevant transportation design and analysis experience.
- Registered Professional Engineer.
- At least five years of project management/execution experience with understanding of standard project management processes.
- Experience with TDOT and LPA (Local Programs Administration).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; capable of interacting effectively with in‑house design staff and client staff at all levels.
- Demonstrated track record of accomplishments as a project manager or engineer on transportation projects; able to supervise and direct a team of engineers, sub‑consultants, and vendors.
- Proficient in Excel, including macros.
- Strong attention to detail and self‑starter ability.
- Multitask effectively while working on multiple projects at various stages of completion.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and MS Project.
