Insight Global is seeking an Onsite Instrument Controls Designer for a leading downstream energy company. This individual will be responsible for developing instrument construction packages and supporting documentation to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality design execution. The role is highly hands‑on and ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment—owning design development from field walkdowns through final deliverables, while collaborating with internal teams and external engineering firms to meet strict design and safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed instrument construction packages including panel layouts, termination drawings, loop diagrams, block diagrams, and specifications
  • Design and support systems including SIS, fiber, cable tray routing, and PLC configurations
  • Perform field walkdowns to validate scope, verify existing conditions, and ensure design accuracy prior to development
  • Lead and participate in drawing package reviews, ensuring compliance with engineering and site standards
  • Interface with third‑party engineering firms to support external design efforts and ensure adherence to company protocols
  • Assist in locating reference drawings and validating that all submitted packages meet design requirements before final submission
  • Administer drawing packages through established company protocols and ensure proper documentation delivery
Qualifications
  • Strong experience in instrument controls design within a refinery or heavy industrial plant environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience developing construction packages including loop diagrams, panel layouts, and control system designs
  • Ability to perform field walkdowns and collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, reliability, and operations teams
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to manage multiple design deliverables
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines
