Electrical Engineer – Building Engineering Services

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you will design the critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as the electrical engineer responsible for design through all project phases.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, architects, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Develop construction documents, specifications, engineering calculations, and perform RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, site investigations, and overall construction administration.
  • Deliver technically excellent design solutions with passion, self‑motivation, and strong leadership skills.
Responsibilities Include
  • Provide detailed design and coordination of facilities with team members.
  • Prepare construction documents with BIM/CADD platforms.
  • Edit and prepare design specifications; select equipment, electrical systems, and devices.
  • Use vendor software to select equipment and communicate with sales reps.
  • Track and meet design budgets.
  • Perform load calculations.
  • Attend design meetings with other team members.
  • Coordinate the work of Electrical Engineers, EITs, and BIM Specialists throughout the project’s development.
  • Support design during construction – field observations, submittal and shop drawing review, and RFI support.
  • Provide construction administration services throughout all construction phases.
  • Visit project sites as required to monitor construction progress and prepare field observation reports.
  • Perform fieldwork to verify existing conditions.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • Previous experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
  • Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI, and Easy Power.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
