Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist

We are currently seeking a full‑time Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist for our Memphis, TN office. This is an excellent opportunity to join and grow EnSafe, getting involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients across the globe.

As a Senior Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will apply local, state, and federal environmental regulations to deliver defensible compliance solutions for commercial, industrial, municipal, and state government clients while supporting client development and market growth. Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  • Lead the development, preparation, and submission of environmental compliance documents in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Deliverables include Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), EPCRA Tier II and TRI reports, Annual Waste Summaries, Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit Applications, and Semi‑Annual Compliance Reports. You will serve as the technical owner and primary author for all assigned deliverables.
  • Conduct hands‑on environmental compliance audits for EnSafe clients, identifying regulatory non‑conformances and associated corrective actions.
  • Serve as technical lead for implementing corrective and preventive actions to resolve compliance deficiencies at client facilities.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive environmental compliance programs covering wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, and EPCRA reporting (Tier II, Form R, TRI Sections 312 and 313).
  • Provide project management support for environmental compliance and permitting engagements, including proposal development, technical execution, project coordination, and project billing.
  • Support and help lead the environmental compliance service line in Tennessee, including mentoring and supervising junior compliance staff with a focus on technical consulting development.
  • Travel periodically, including overnight stays, to client sites to support consulting engagements.
Skills & Experience

Minimum Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant environmental compliance experience, including consulting experience.
  • Proven technical writing expertise, with the ability to produce high‑quality permit applications, contingency plans, compliance audit reports, annual compliance reports, and formal technical correspondence with regulatory agencies.
  • Strong consulting, relationship‑building, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including developing scopes of work, cost proposals, schedules, and managing multiple project teams concurrently.
  • A “seller‑doer” mindset, with experience working with industrial clients and a track record of contributing to business development efforts.
  • Business‑oriented approach with the ability to support corporate goals related to revenue growth, profitability, utilization, and effective management of projects and personnel.

Preferred

Skills:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or other relevant environmental certifications.
  • Experience in air permitting, emissions calculations, inventories, and air modeling.
