The SpaceXAI Data Center control systems team is looking for a highly motivated Controls Engineer to support the operation, design, and optimization of our advanced data center infrastructure. This role focuses on maintaining the stability and efficiency of systems powering SpaceXAI’s AI research, collaborating with cross-functional teams to monitor and improve data center performance throughout its lifecycle. The engineer will work closely with Operations and Maintenance to ensure smooth daily operations and long-term upgrades and expansions.
Responsibilities- Execute the implementation and modification of Building Management System (BMS), Electrical Power Management System (EPMS), and other SCADA systems critical for current and future data centers
- Oversee operation of critical systems such as chillers, pumps, and power distribution using PLCs and other industrial control technologies
- Prepare specifications for Human-machine Interface (HMI) graphics and interpretation standards
- Implement and maintain automated controls for fire safety and emergency shutdown procedures (ESOP)
- Develop a corporate-level reporting dashboard to monitor operational trends such as Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and performance/cost, and adjust infrastructure set points for optimal performance
- Coordinate with utility providers to automate demand and operational responses to upstream grid events
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline (Controls and Computer Control Systems, Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Controls Engineer working with industrial control systems
- Ignition SCADA programming experience
- Physical Requirements
:- Ability to work for extended periods standing when needed
- Work in tight quarters and require physical dexterity
- Comfortable around noise in the work environment
- Ability to lift or carry 10-15 lbs
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Position is subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing
- Advanced proficiency programming industrial equipment in IEC 61131-3 languages (structured text and ladder logic)
- Experience with industrial control hardware from leading manufacturers (e.g., Siemens, SEL, Rockwell)
- Familiarity with HMI/GUI development using platforms such as Ignition and SEL
- Methodical troubleshooting approach
