Since 1969, Lakeside has been the premier provider of specialized behavioral health and addictive disease services in the Memphis and Mid-South region. The 365-bed facility is one of the largest free‑standing psychiatric hospitals in the United States. We are located on a serene 37‑acre campus in northeast Shelby County, serving as the setting for the treatment of children, adolescents, young adults, adults and seniors.
Lakeside’s comprehensive programs treat disorders such as bipolar disorder, psychological trauma, depression and anxiety, mental illnesses and addictive disease disorders such as alcoholism, drug addiction and substance abuse.
The Recreation Therapist is responsible for assessing patients’ leisure and recreational activities, providing age‑ and developmentally appropriate therapy groups and establishing behavioral treatment goals in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Lakeside Behavioral Health.
QualificationsJob Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Bachelor’s in Recreation Therapy preferred and Bachelor’s in related fields of Art, Music or Exercise/Fitness required. CTRS or Licensed in Specialty Therapy preferred.
- Experience: One year experience in working with a mental health population.
- Licensure/Certification: CTRS or Licensed in Specialty Therapy preferred.
- Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of group leadership skills, age‑specific growth and development, crisis and behavior management.
