You’ll be responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with Barrett’s vision to WOW our customers, partners, and fellow employees with every interaction.
The PositionThe Safety Specialist, reporting to the Safety Manager, is responsible for training, overseeing, and enforcing all safety practices in the workplace. Continually focus on the improvement of processes to ensure customers’ needs are being met, employees are working safely, and all required safety documentation is completed. This position works Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 4 pm. The compensation for this position starts at $52,000 /year, depending on experience.
YourDay‑to‑Day
- Maintain detailed knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and how to use those guidelines to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
- Complete weekly, monthly and annual safety inspections in assigned facility(s).
- Regularly review all required safety documentation and update as necessary.
- Develop and present overall safety and food safety agenda items at facility/department meetings and daily huddles.
- Ensure the company complies with all current safety regulations and that all employees are aware of safety requirements and are prepared to follow safety procedures.
- Train employees in the safe use of Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIVs); provide retraining as necessary.
- In conjunction with the safety manager and facility leadership, identify root causes of non‑conformance and implement corrective actions.
- Respond to on‑site emergencies, investigate workplace injuries and accidents, conduct reviews and follow‑up actions as necessary.
- In collaboration with facility leadership, drive employee involvement at all levels of the organization and encourage active participation in the safety programs.
- Recommend ways to improve health and safety in the workplace that reduce injuries and accidents.
- Maintain ongoing knowledge of current state and federal workplace safety regulations.
- Develop, prioritize, and direct programs to reduce injuries and accidents and drive a culture of safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Approximately 20 %–30 % local travel. Based on business needs, may be required to travel more or less often.
- High School Diploma required; 2 years of college experience in a related field preferred.
- Certifications and/or completed coursework in OSHA regulatory compliance preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of related experience preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of current OSHA standards and how they impact the workplace.
- Proficient in all Microsoft business applications such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Working knowledge of warehouse operations and warehouse management systems.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred).
